Office 365 - How to set up 2FA using phone line or SMS

You can set up 2FA with your phone line or SMS. In the first option (authenticating through phone line) you will receive a phone call to securely authenticate your login. For the second option (SMS) an SMS text code will be sent to your phone for authentication.


To set up 2FA using phone line or SMS complete the steps below:


Step 1:
Click on this Link to begin set up.
Please ensure that you sign in with your "NMSU email" and "Passphrase" and then click Next.

Step 2:
Select "I want to set up a different method."

Step 3:
On the display screen, click on the drop down arrow to choose a preferred authentication method.
Note: In this article we chose "phone call" as preferred authentication method.
Note: You can select the SMS option to receive authentication code via SMS.

Step 4:
After selecting phone, click on Confirm.

Step 5:
Next, provide details for the number you wish to be called on.
Then click Next.

Step 6:
Answer the call and follow instructions to verify your identify.

Click Next to exit display window.
