Matlab - Download and Install
The Matlab software is available for download to any current NMSU student and can be accessed both on and off campus.
This document will assist you through the processes of download and install as well as accessing Matlab both on and off campus. There are 20 Steps to this processes so to ensure that you will download and install MATLAB successfully give yourself plenty of time to complete this process.
Note: To access Matlab from outside the campus network (anywhere off campus or on a personal computer) you will also need to download and install the Cisco Virtual Private Network (VPN) client.

Type matlab.nmsu.edu into your URL bar and press enter/return.
Note: Before this page will load you will be prompted to enter your NMSU credentials; this will be the same username and password that you use to log into myNMSU and the Canvas pages.
Access your downloads folder through the Mac Finder and find the mac.zip file.
Double-click the mac.zip file to begin the extraction process.
Open the "Mac" folder that has been extracted.
Find and select the file named "InstallForMacOSX" to run the Matlab install.
Make sure that the "Use a File Installation Key" option is selected and click the next button.
Select the option named "I have the File Installation Key for my license" before you continue to the next step.
Return to the "Mac" folder and open the file named "intaller_input.txt" and double-click this file. Once opened select the series of numbers located in the text after the title "fileInstallationKey" and copy the numbers by either right-clicking and selecting "copy" or using the quick-keys "command + c".
Return to the Matlab installer window and paste the installation key into the open box. Again you can do this by either right-clicking in the box and selecting paste or through the use of the quick keys of "command + v". After doing so click next.
The next window will provide a list of components or "products" that are available to install. Look through this list, make all the appropriate selections, and click next.
This window severs as a final confirmation before installation. Please check your selection and click Install when you are ready to continue.
After installation, there will be a window notifying you of possible configurations that may require attention. Review this and when you are ready click Next.
Select or make sure that the box to the left of "activate MATLAB" is selected and click next when you are ready to continue.
The next window will have two selections for how you wish to activate MATLAB. Make sure you select the bottom option titled "Activate manually without the Internet" and click Next when you are ready to continue.
For this step return to the "matlab.nmsu.edu" page in your web browser and select the "License" tab found in the center of the page above the image. Move down to the "KMS Dat File" option and click it to continue to the next step.
Move back to the Downloads folder in your Finder and double-click the zip file titled "Twister 2 License". This will extract the files that have been downloaded in the previous step.
Return to the MATLAB installer and click on the button titled Browse and continue to the next step.
Navigate to your Downloads folder and select the file named "Twister2License.dat". Once this is highlighted click on the Select button located at the bottom right of the window to continue.
You should now find that there is a file path in the previously empty box leading to the "Twister2License.dat" file. Once you confirm that this file path is correct click the Next button.
To complete the installation process click the Finish button at the bottom right of the installer window. Congratulations, you have now successfully installed your MATLAB program package.
