Accessing NMSU Documents on Mac 10.5 - 10.6

Instructions to access your "My Documents" Computer Lab folder on your personal computer


These instructions will allow you to access your NMSU Computer Lab "My Documents" folder from a personal computer. After completing these steps, you will be able to get to your "My Documents" folder on a personal computer on and off campus. 

To complete these steps, you will need your Social Security Number and your myNMSU username. If you do not have a myNMSU account, go to https://my.nmsu.edu to sign up. 

If you are off-campus, please refer to the VPN Client Download instructions at (INSERT LINK HERE) before proceeding. If you are on-campus, follow the directions below. 


Mapping a Network Drive
To complete these steps, you will need your Social Security Number and your myNMSU username. 
  1. On the Desktop, find the Go tab in the top menu bar. In the Go menu, click on the Connect to Server (Cttl+K)

  2. The next window will be the Connect to Server window. In the Server Address box, type in the following:
    smb://avalance:139/users$/<your myNMSU username>
    Example: smb://avalance:139/users$/jsmith

  3. After entering the information above, a new window will appear prompting you to type in your myNMSU username and password. Make sure that the "Registered User" option is selected in the "Connect As" section. In the name box, type in acn\<your myNMSU username>
    Example: acn\jsmith

    Once the prompt has been entered in the "name" box, enter your Social Security Number in the "password" box. 

    *Important: The slash in the "name" and "password" boxes are a forward slash (\), NOT the backward slash (/)

  4. A window will appear containing your NMSU Computer Lab "My Documents" folder. If you need to eject this drive after you are done with your documents folder, click the eject button next to the drive name.
