Troubleshooting NMSU E-mail on Mobile Devices

Instructions on how to troubleshoot your NMSU e-mail on a mobile device


The most likely problem with your account is an incorrect username, password, or incorrect server setting. We suggest you begin by troubleshooting your NMSU username and password. 



If you are having trouble accessing NMSU e-mail from an e-mail program (Outlook, Thunderbird, Mac Mail, etc.), refer here. 

If you are having trouble accessing NMSU e-mail through my.nmsu.edu, refer here. 


If you are having trouble accessing e-mail on a mobile device, you should make sure that your username and password are correct. Remember that every time you change your NMSU password you will need to change it on your mobile device also. 

*Remember:
Your NMSU e-mail username is your NMS e-mail address. 
Your NMSU e-mail password is your NMSU password. 

Please refer to the instructions for your mobile device: 

iDevices (iPhone, iPod, iPad)
  1. Go to Settings. Click Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Under Accounts, select your NMSU account. Tap the Account button at the top of the screen.


     
  2. On the next screen, make sure that the Username is set to your NMSU username. Make sure that Password is set to your NMSU password. Then click Done.

Android 4.X+

Note: The option names on your device may differ slightly. 
  1. Go to Settings and choose Accounts. Select your NMSU e-mail account. 
  2. Under Incoming server settings, make sure your Domain/Username is set to your NMSU username. Make sure your Password is set to your NMSU password. 

    **if you have verified your username and password and are still having trouble accessing your e-mail, you should check your account settings using the instructions in the Troubleshooting Server Settings section. 



Android 3.x

Note: the option names on your device may differ slightly. 
  1. Go to Settings and click Accounts or Accounts & sync. Select your NMSU e-mail account. 
  2. Under incoming server settings, make sure your Domain/Username is set to your NMSU username. Make sure your Password is set to your NMSU password. 

    **If you have verified your username and password and are still having trouble accessing your e-mail, you should check your account settings using the instructions in the Troubleshooting Server Settings sections.

  1. Go to Settings and click Accounts or Accounts & sync. Select your NMSU e-mail account.

  1. On your Blackberry, go to Settings. then click on Email Settings; you may be prompted to log into the Blackberry Web Server to make changes. 
  2. Go to Email Accounts. Find your NMSU e-mail account and click Edit. Make sure the Password is your NMSU password. Additionally, make sure the User ID or Username is your NMSU e-mail address. 

    **If you have verified your username and password and are still having trouble accessing your e-mail, you should check your account settings using the instructions in the Troubleshooting Server Settings section.

  1. Go to Settings. Next, click Email + accounts. Tap your NMSU e-mail account. 
  2. Check that your Username is your NMSU e-mail address. Check that your Password is your NMSU password.

    **If you have verified your username and password and are still having trouble accessing your e-mail, you should check your account settings using the instructions in the Troubleshooting Server Settings section. 




If you are still having trouble accessing e-mail on a mobile device after verifying your username and password, you should check that the server settings are correct. 

  1. To find the server settings, Log in to http://my.nmsu.edu and click the Email and Calendar icon at the top right of the screen. Select Options from the Settings menu. 



  2. On the next screen, click the Settings for POP, IMAP, and SMTP access link. A window will come up giving you the settings for IMAP and SMTP. The settings will include Server name and Port. Save these setting by keeping the window open, writing them down or by some other method. You will use them in your mail client in the following steps. 
    **Note: The server setting in the images below may not match your server settings. 



  3. To continue, please select your mail client from the list below: 

    Android version 4.0+
    Android tablet version 3.x
    Blackberry
    Windows Phone

    *Note: 
    If you do not see your mail client on the list, your account should be set up as an Exchange account which finds server settings automatically. This is true for iPhone, iPod, iPad, and Android version 2.x.

  1. Go to Settings and choose Accounts. Select your NMSU e-mail account. 
  2. Under Incoming server settings,  make sure the Server is the IMAP server name saved previously.

  1. Go to Settings and choose Accounts or Accounts & sync. Select your NMSU e-mail account. 
  2. Under Incoming server settings,  make sure the Server is the IMAP server name saved previously.

  1. On your Blackberry, go to Settings. Then click on Email Settings; you may be prompted to log into the Blackberry Web Server to make changes. 
  2. Go to Email accounts. Find your NMSU e-mail account and click Edit, or click the Menu key and click Edit.
  3. Scroll to Advance Options. Make sure the Email Server is the same as the IMAP server name saved previously. Click Save
  4. For the email password, enter your NMSU password. Select OK.

  1. Go to Settings. Next, click Email + accounts. Tap your NMSU e-mail account
  2. Check that the Server is the same as the IMAP server name saved previously; if not change to the previously recorded server name.
