Google Chrome - Use your camera & microphone
You can use your camera and microphone for sites in Chrome, like Google Hangouts or Skype. Sometimes, you need to give sites permission first.
- Open Chrome
- Navigate to a site that wants to use your microphone and camera
- In the drop-down that appears, you have a few options:
- Allow: This allows the site to use your camera and microphone. You'll see a notice to confirm this.
- Block: This prevents the site from using your camera and microphone. Note: Some sites won't work if you choose this option. For example, you might not be able to join a video conference.
Change camera and microphone permissions
You can change which sites can use your camera and microphone:
- Open Chrome.
- At the top right, click More
Settings.
- Click Show advanced settings.
- In the "Privacy" selection, click Content settings.
- Under "Camera" or "Microphone," click on of the options:
- Ask when a site requires access to your camera and microphone: Chrome alerts you whenever a site asks to use your camera and microphone.
- Do not allow sites to access your camera and microphone: Automatically deny any site requests to use your camera and microphone.
- To remove permissions you already granted to sites, click Manage exceptions.
Note: If you're using a Chrome device at work or school, your network administrator might set camera and microphone settings for you. In that case, you can't change them here.
Change Adobe Flash camera and microphone access
If you find a site using Adobe Flash Player, it can also ask to use your microphone and camera on Windows, Linus, and Chrome OS. You have the option to manage these access settings:
- Allow: Let the site use your camera and microphone at this time. You can also check Remember to let this site use your camera and microphone.
- Deny: Prevent the site from accessing your camera and microphone. Note: Some sites won't work if you choose this option. For example, you might not be able to join a video conference.
- Microphone
: Pick which microphone to use and adjust the volume.
- Camera
: Pick which camera to use.
Note: If you're using a Chrome device at work or school, your network administrator might make devices access settings for you. In that case, you can't change them here.
