Google Chrome - Fix problems installing Google Chrome

If you're having problems installing Chrome on your computer, you may see the following errors:

  • Error 4: A newer version of Chrome is already present on the computer.
  • Errors 7, 12, 14, 35, 57, 102, 103: The install failed for unknown reasons.
  • Error 31: Could not re-install Chrome.

Try the possible fixes below.

Check if your computer hard drive has enough space
You might run into a problem if there's not enough space on your computer for Chrome.

Clear up hard drive space by deleting unnecessary files, such as temporary files, browser cache files, or old documents and programs. Then download Chrome again from and try reinstalling.

Turn off your antivirus software
Some antivirus software can prevent Google Chrome from installing on the computer. To check if your antivirus software is the problem, turn it off. Then download Chrome again from and try reinstalling. Remember to turn your antivirus software back on again later.

If you can't install Google Chrome with your antivirus software turned off, you might need to upgrade your antivirus software.

Download Chrome again
It's possible that you deleted the update and need to install the assist program to install Chrome. To fix, make sure you meet the system requirements then download Chrome again from and try reinstalling.

If your computer doesn't let you complete these steps, then you'll need to contact the person who has administration rights to your computer to complete the Chrome update.
