Amazon Device - Finding Wi-Fi Password to Register

In order to set up and register your Amazon device, you may need to connect your device to a wireless network.

To connect your Amazon devices, such as your Kindle e-reader, Fire tablet, Fire phone, or Fire TV to a wireless network, you’ll first need to know the name of the Wi-Fi network, and the password for the network (if required).

Tip: Your network name may also be referred to as an SSID; your password may be referred to as a passphrase or key.

To find your network name or password:

  • Check the sticker on the bottom of your router.
  • Check your installation guide or the owner's manual for your router.
  • View the wireless settings on a device that is already connected to your network, such as a Windows PC, Mac, or mobile phone.

Windows PC

To view the wireless settings on most Windows PCs:

  1. Left-click the wireless icon in the taskbar.
Tip: On Windows 8, switch to Desktop mode, and then left-click the wireless icon.
  2. Right-click the name of the network that says Connected, and then click Properties.
  3. On the Connection tab, your network name should be listed under Name or SSID.
  4. On the Security tab, your password should be listed next to Network security key.

Note: To show your password, you will need to be logged in to an Administrator account.

If you're still unable to locate your network name or password, you can contact your internet service provider or the person who helped set up your wireless network for further assistance.

Mac OS X

To view the wireless settings on most Mac devices running OS X:

  1. Open the Utilities folder, and then open the Keychain Access app.
  2. Click your wireless network name, and then click the info button.
  3. Check the box next to Show Password.

Note: To show your password, you will need to enter the administrator password for your device.

If you're still unable to locate your network name or password, you can contact your internet service provider or the person who helped set up your wireless network for further assistance.
