NETGEAR - Configuring Your Wireless Adapter Using Smart Wizard Software

This article walks you through using the NETGEAR Smart Wizard software to set up your NETGEAR wireless adapter for WEP and WPA encryption.

Prerequisites

  1. This article applies to older models of NETGEAR wireless adapters that use the Smart Wizard software. Newer adapter models use the NETGEAR genie software. The troubleshooting principles are the same, but the click-by-click instructions will be different.
  2. This article assumes that you have already run the adapter installation process using the CD that shipped with your adapter. This will have installed the Smart Wizard (or genie) software on your computer. If you have not installed the software, and do not have the CD, you can download the correct software for your adapter model from http://support.netgear.com, and install it manually.
  3. Windows 7 will automatically install software for some NETGEAR wireless adapters, with no CD required. See Windows 7 Automatically Installs Some NETGEAR Adapters

Symptoms

  • Unable to connect and access the Internet using the NETGEAR wireless adapter
  • Cannot configure or setup wireless security using the NETGEAR Smart Wizard software utility
  • Getting an IP address of 0.0.0.0 on PC using NETGEAR wireless adapter.
