Norton (Win) - Protection Against the Smominru Botnet

Smominru is a botnet that is known to deliver a variety of malware and Trojans to vulnerable devices, ultimately benefiting the operator by mining cryptocurrency.

Am I protected against this threat?

Symantec and Norton users are protected against Smominru botnet. Run LiveUpdate to ensure that you have the latest virus definitions and then run a full system scan.


Run LiveUpdate

  1. Start Norton.

  2. In the main window, click Security, and then click LiveUpdate.

  3. When Norton LiveUpdate is finished, click OK.

  4. Run LiveUpdate until you see the message, "Your Norton product has the latest protection updates."

  5. Exit all the programs, and restart the computer.


Run Full System Scan

  1. Start Norton.

  2. In the main window, click Security, and then click Scans.

  3. In the Scans window, select Full System Scan and click Go.

  4. When the scan is finished, click Finish.
