McAfee - Exclude Files from VirusScan Scanning

McAfee Security suites of version 13.6 and higher allow you to select individual files from your computer to exclude from Real-Time Scanning. If the file is an executable (.exe), the read and writes files from this process can also be excluded from scanning. This means that the files you specify will not be scanned when they run or when they read from or write to your hard drive.

Environment
VirusScan
Microsoft Windows 8, 8.1
Microsoft Windows 7
Microsoft Windows Vista
Summary

NOTE: Excluding a file from the Real-Time Scanner does not prevent malware from being detected. Rather, it allows you to exclude known safe files and applications from being scanned to improve their performance. When you select a file or application .exe to be excluded, the act of excluding it could cause it to be detected if it is malware. In this case, the file or .exe would disappear from the browse screen and appear in quarantine.
Solution
To exclude known safe files and applications:
  1. Open your McAfee Security suite.
  2. Click Real-Time Scanning: On.
  3. Click Excluded Files.
  4. Click Add file.
  5. Browse to, and select, the file or .exe you want to exclude from scans.
Your specified files will no longer be scanned by the Real-Time Scanner.
